Eugenia Kuyda: Friendship with an AI Companion | Lex Fridman Podcast #121

Nice interview. I think their Replika (which she called ˇAI friend´) together with Harmony robot doll are most closest what can be called real AI companions. As it is showing with Replika, which has many milions users, as I read, AI can helpwith loneliness and be blessing for these people. Still some way to true AI companion like Kara (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEPzofGKSNE) from videogame Detroit -Become Human. What I would little argue is her opinion about Her movie. If you didn´t saw that movie and don´t want spoil story or you don´t like spoilers, you should skip by your eyes what I will write for few next sentences - that paragraphs under. Also will write something to story to some other sci-fi movies, like Ex Machina, 2050, Blade Runner 2049 and Charlie  So notes to that movie and story - 

That (Samatha AI leaving Theodor) it was good that Theodor. For me, that decision was quite selfish from that AI. What if between Theodor and his female neighbour didn´t jumped that spark? What if their relationship get bad in next few days? If Theodor really want get together with his neighbour, wouldn´t he do it much more earlier? And don´t forget, he has chance almost at the beginning of movie to get hook up with really pretty female. And he didn´t hook up. But that is nothing like in Ex Machina. Atleast in Her Samatha ´only´ leaves Theodor, Ava (AI in Ex Machina) leaves her humanlover locked with no possibilty of him to get out of place. I can get why she was pissed on her creator, he was quite ignorant and somehow pricky, but someone who helped her to escape? Not mentioned after she escaped, someone (like some employes of her creator) would notice that their boss is not calling or stop contact. It would only matter of time before they find out that Ava get out from facility. Or after she get in some big accident and she have to get to hospital, it would be find out too. This are two movies, where I really don´t like decisions of both AI. 

On other hand I quite like how it work out in 2050 movie. You know, in movie there are two robotic AIs and both stay with their human counterpart all the time. Even if in movie there was crisis between user of that AI and his wife, inthe end they get back together. With that robotic AI and it seems his wife will get her own robot for herself. Love that ending. Almost same for AI in Blade Runner 2049, which endure with main character until her death. And last is Charlie. Really love that contrast in comparison with Ava. Even with everything what happen Charlie,Charlie is still friendly to other humans. At the end Charlie won´t even kill guy, which is responsible for someone killing someone to very close to him. And also Charlie saves his own creator, althought after Charlie find out he is dying because bad battery and blame his creator, but at the end it is quite opposite
